First Time in Phuket? 7 MUST – DO’s activities.

If this is your first time to Phuket and you are wondering what to do then following are 7 really helpful ideas to help you pass the time in Phuket. Once you have gone through this list you will be a pro on Phuket. Give everything a try as they are really fun things to do while holidaying in this tropical island getaway.

# 1: Try spending a balmy evening on the beach

Phuket’s warm tropical nights and seriously gorgeous screen saver coastline is  a great backdrop to an evening out under the stars. Whether your planning a romantic night out where you get a mat and sip champagne (watch the sunset) on the beach or if you are at one of the family friendly seaside restaurants, Phukets beaches at night are wonderful. If you are up for some partying then there are heaps of bars and nightclubs along the beach. Basically there is something for everyone when it comes to Phuket.s beaches after sunset.

# 2: Try to snorkel or go for a scuba dive

Between April and November Phuket is the place to be for some great snorkelling and scuba diving. The sea is at it’s calmest then and the winds are really low. Plus the clarity of the water is spectacular. Renting snorkelling equipment is really easy to do and it’s very cheap.

The most popular dive spots are Laem Singh beach, Ao Sane, Kata Noi, Paradise beach and Ya Nui. If you are staying out of these areas you can easily get a local taxi there. It will cost you a few dollars but it’s worth it.

# 3: Try a traditional Thai massage

This is a must do activity as it’s really cheap compared to back home and you are going to feel fantastic after an hour of massage and gentle body manipulation. There are literally hundreds of day spas and massage places all over Phuket. All you need to do is walk around and you will spot them. In most cases they are actually standing outside looking for business. It’s a fun way to spend a couple of hours and the after effects are unbelievably good. This form of Thai massage is combines acupressure with Indian Ayurvedic techniques. They manipulate your bidy in a yoga like fashion gently. Don’t freak out when they do this as they know what they are doing. Be prepared for this, come with an open mind and enjoy!

# 4: Have you ever had a fish spa?

This is where you stick your feet in water ( a fish tank) and little fish come and nibble on your dead skin. If you have been walking around Phuket then chances are you would have seen these curious little tanks and wondered what the hell is going on? It’s really popular here and it’s an awesome way to exfoliate dead skin off your feet. All you have to do is put your feet in the fish tank, settle down, hold your nerve  and let those little fish do the rest. Some people really freak out but it’s worth a try even for the experience. It’s not painful, it even tickles a bit so go on and give it a go. Worse thing that can happen is you have cleaner feet.

# 5: Be cultural and visit a few temples

Hire a driver, get into a taxi and see the local exotic temples. They are the heart of the cultural beat of Phuket and it would be a real pity if you didn’t make the effort to see them.  If you were to single out 1 temple make sure you go to the Big Buddha on Mt  Nagakerd. You are in for a real treat here as this monstrous and imposing 45 metre statue towers over you. Get ready for heaps of selfies here.

# 6: Eat locally

Don’t be afraid to try the local Thai dishes at the street stalls or night markets. Pull up a chair, sit at the out door table and enjoy a great meal fro less than $20 Aussie per couple. The food is fresh, local and you will be surprised at how tasty they are. The range of dishes are huge and cover everything from meat, fish, vegetarian and pork. Take the family here for a fun night out and mix it up with the locals and other tourists that just absolutely love this type of outdoor eating.

# 7 Rent a scooter and go exploring

Yes you can actually rent a scooter cheaply  and do your own touring. Bikes are incredibly cheap and it’s a fun way to get around the island and sight see at your own leisure. Be very careful as accidents do happen so please make sure you take out the appropriate insurance.
